about

This one took us a while. We wanted an early 70's singer-songwriter-ish/Gordon Lightfoot-ish/Neil Diamond-ish sound to it. There are two things we'd like to point out on this ditty.

The first is the inclusion of another brass section (this is our fourth song with real brass, which we really enjoy) by Jack Hebert...a teenager with serious horn chops. Thanks a ton, Jack!

Secondly, the kick/bass drum on this song is something we actually stole from a Buddy Holly song. Rather than being an actual kick drum, it's the sound of a vinyl-covered seat from an antique chair in Paul's living room. This is something Crickets' drummer Jerry Allison did on "Not Fade Away" (take a listen!).

Please enjoy this one, won't you? We do.

lyrics

Sometimes
I don't know what's going on.
Things I recognize are gone,
And things I don't know
Have taken their place.
Unwise
To try to keep things as they are,
To try to seal them in a jar,
To run out of air
And run out of space.

You know we're in for all kinds of changes;
The world keeps turning around.
Better readjust our tolerance ranges;
The world keeps turning around.

Sunshine,
Sleeping in the afternoon.
I know you're gonna be home soon,
So I'm hanging around
To see your face.
I'm fine,
But different from the way I was
Way back when we fell in love:
Strong and weak
In different ways.

You know we're in for all kinds of changes;
The world keeps turning around.
Better readjust our tolerance ranges;
The world keeps turning around.

We just keep getting older every day,
And children grow up and move away,
But it'll be okay
If I help you, and you help me.

You know we're in for all kinds of changes;
The world keeps turning around.
Better readjust our tolerance ranges;
The world won't stop turning around.

Sometimes
I don't know what's going on,
As though I've been awake too long,
But I'll hang around
To see what I see.

about

The Big Cats Austin, Texas

Paul and Jon are a recording duo from Austin, Texas. We grew up in Abilene. We enjoy things of a similar nature. We play songs, mostly which we've written, and a few we didn't. We don't play live because we're too nervous and don't want to stay up too late. We are friends. ... more
